Letter From a Friend

As you got up this morning, I watched you and hoped you would talk to me, even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me for something good that happened in your life yesterday. But I noticed you were too busy trying to find the right outfit to put on and wear to work. So I waited.

When you ran around the house getting ready I knew there would be a few minutes for you to stop and say hello but you were too busy. At one point you had to wait fifteen minutes with nothing to do except sit in a chair. Then I saw you spring to your feet. I thought you wanted to talk to me but you ran to the phone and called a friend to get the latest gossip. I watched as you went to work and I waited patiently all day long.

With all your activities, I guess you were too busy to say anything to me. I noticed that before lunch you looked around. Maybe you felt embarrassed to talk to me that’s why you didn’t bow your head. You glanced three or four tables over and you noticed some of your friends talking to me briefly before they ate, but you didn’t. That’s okay. There is still more time left, and I have hope that you will talk to me yet.

You went home and it seemed as if you had lots of things to do. After a few of them were done, you turned on the TV. I didn’t know if you like TV or not. Just about anything goes there and you spent a lot of time each day in front of it, not thinking about anything – just enjoying the show. I waited patiently again as you watched the TV and ate your meal but again you didn’t talk to me. When bedtime came, I guess you felt too tired. After you said goodnight to your family, you plopped into bed and fell asleep in no time.

That’s okay because you may not have realized that I am always there for you. I’ve got patience more than you will ever know. I even want to teach you how to be patient with others as well. I love you so much that I waited everyday for a nod, prayer or thought or a thankful part of your heart. It is hard to have a one-sided conversation.

Well, you are getting up again and once more, I will wait with nothing but love for you, hoping that today you will give me some time.

Have a nice day!

Your friend,

Jesus

Gen. Douglas MacArthur

This is the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Marker located just beside the pier in Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City. It was completed in March this year. The marker is a replica of Gen. MacArthur’s cap which is made of fiber glass and steel; spanning 8 meters in diameter and 5 meters in height. The five stars represent his rank as a five-star general when he landed in this place on March 13, 1942.

They said that this could be the world’s biggest cap in existence and perhaps land in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Live a Life That Matters

Ready not
Someday it will come to an end
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days
All the things that you have collected
Whether treasured or forgotten will pass to someone else
Your wealth, fame or temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance
It will not matter what you owned or what you owed.

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear
So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do list will expire
The winds and losses that once seemed so important will fade away
It won’t matter whether or not you were beautiful or brilliant
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter?
How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built
Not what you got, but what you gave
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion,
courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or
encourage others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence, but your character
What will matter is not how many people you knew,
But how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone
What will matter is not your memories,
But the memories that live in those who loved you
What will matter is how long you will be remembered,
By whom and for what

Living a life that matter doesn’t happen by accident
It’s not a matter of circumstances but of choice
Choose to live life that matters.
